The Vice President, Finance will provide strategic direction, financial expertise and leadership while serving as the primary financial executive leader for the assigned region. This position ensures consistency and standardization of financial information and implementation of best practice performance standards for financial operations. This position also coordinates revenue cycle functions within the region in collaboration with the Patient Business Services (PBS) and Physician Revenue Organization (PRO) billing services and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.


Reports to: System Vice President - Finance (Illinois / Missouri)

Supervises: Finance Directors; other functions as determined by the regional structure

(HIM/Coding, Revenue Integrity, Case Management, Materials Management and other functions as specified by regional structure, Administrative Assistant.

Interrelationships: System Finance peers and team members; System, Regional and Campus Management; Internal and External Auditors

  1. Exceptional Service - Patient/Customer

A. Serves as the primary financial leader for the region, including acting as the finance point of contact for regional executive leaders.

B. Serves as a member of the regional leadership team, including leading financial performance reviews for the hospital operations team and medical group operations team.

C. Works with regional executives to ensure that financial team is maximizing its effectiveness to the individual campuses and to the region as a whole.

    1. Interviews, hires, directs, develops, and evaluates direct reports.
    2. With consultation from Human Resources, makes decisions on the discipline and/or discharge of direct reports.
    3. Meet monthly with team's review policies, procedures and addresses concerns.

  1. Exceptional Performance - Financial/Growth/Development

A. Serves as the primary liaison to the System VP, Finance - IL/MO regarding regional financial issues. Works directly with System VP, Finance - IL/MO to provide high quality financial services that are value added to the region.

B. Serves as regional leader providing oversight of Patient Business Services (PBS) and Provider Revenue Organization (PRO) performance and other revenue cycle functions such as revenue integrity and clinical documentation and monitors all related revenue cycle metrics.

C. Coordinates activities of finance directors (accounting, reimbursement, hospital financial operations, financial strategy and medical group finance) to provide consistent and accurate financial reporting and information across the region.

D. Leads other regional functions as determined by the regional executive. Examples include coding, health information management, case management, physician billing, supply chain and information systems.

E. Serves as the finance leader for external organizations, including government agencies, vendors, payor organizations, external auditors, tax advisors, consultants and various business partners.

    1. Supports system-wide and IL/MO finance efforts to coordinate and streamline workflows and reporting to provide value added services at the regional level.



Master degree is required (normally acquired through a graduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related discipline)

Minimum of 7 years of increasingly responsible experience in Financial Management, principally in health care and preferably in a provider environment.

Experience in non-provider health care setting (insurance, consulting) can be considered in lieu of provider experience.
