PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as member of the leadership team providing strategic direction on daily operations and oversight at the Ministry. Leader in a dynamic matrix environment promoting teamwork within and across the organization by maintaining positive relationships and utilizing effective problem-solving skills.
  • Utilizes metrics and organizational vision to lead and direct strategic nursing and patient care practice and standards, patient safety, clinical outcomes and patient, employee, and provider satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements patient services and nursing practice standards, guidelines, and quality metrics across organization to ensure the safe provision of quality patient care.
  • Monitors nursing practice, clinical outcomes, and process improvement initiatives to achieve value-based metrics.
  • Evaluates patient services processes across the organization for quality, cost effectiveness, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, and recommends measures to streamline operations and reduce duplication. Analyzes situations, considers alternatives, formulates, and implements solutions and evaluates results of the patient care environment to provide excellent outcomes.
  • Develops key performance measures and establishes desired levels of performance based on customer requirements, comparative data, and best practices. Evaluates performance data and utilizes it for identification of improvement opportunities and to design and improve processes.
  • Partners across the organization to support smooth transition of care for patients across care settings to ensure optimal setting of care to address patient needs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal government agencies, with professional hospital, civic groups, and related health system organizations. Ensures all state and federal regulations, licensure, accreditation requirements are met.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing healthcare and financing, and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring the operation of programs and initiating changes where appropriate.
  • Ensures the existence of systems to monitor all facets of organization performance, including fiscal viability, adherence to goals, quality of services, personnel, productivity, and mission implementation. Ensures systems are in place for the negotiation, preparation and evaluation of contracts and leases entered into by the organization. Establishes process improvement initiatives to achieve value-based outcome metrics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in nursing or related field; bachelor's degree in nursing if master's is not in Nursing

EXPERIENCE

  • Eight years nursing experience, with four years in leadership

Collectively, SSM Health and the other Catholic health organizations that have signed the pledge employ nearly a half million people across 46 states and the District of Columbia, and care for almost four million patients annually.

Recognizing that racism is an affront to the core values of Catholic social teaching, CHA members joined in solidarity to promote the common good and seek justice by being actively anti-racist and accountable in effecting positive change in the communities we serve.

Four focus areas

Act for COVID-19 equity: Members commit to ensuring that testing for COVID-19 is available and accessible in minority communities and that new treatments are distributed and used equitably as they become available. Members will also work for prioritization of vaccinations for those individuals and families at higher risk — elder populations and communities of color, including Native American communities.

Enact change across our own health systems: Members are examining how their organizations recruit, hire, promote and retain employees; how they conduct business operations, including visible diversity and inclusivity at the decision, leadership and governance levels; and how they incentivize and hold our leaders accountable.

Advocate for improved health outcomes for minority communities and populations: Members agree to promote and improve the delivery of culturally competent care and oppose policies that exacerbate or perpetuate economic and social inequities, including such issues as education, housing and criminal justice reform.

Strengthen trust with minority communities: Members will continue to foster, strengthen and sustain authentic relationships based on mutually agreed goals to better understand the unique needs of their communities.

Kaiser and other Catholic health care leaders who have signed the pledge recognize that collectively they are in a unique position to bring about overdue change to policies and practices that have allowed systemic racism and health disparities to continue in the United States.
