Description

The Vice President of MCC will optimize SSM's contract performance with its key payors so as to advance the system's value-model strategy - a blend of unit price reimbursement, value-based contract rewards, expanding SSM's attributed population, and delivering overall value to patients and good financial performance for SSM.
Additional responsibilities include:
  1. Leads the development and implementation of SSM's System-wide Managed Care Contracting (MCC) strategy and implementation, including operations management of the MCC staff and functions in the various SSM regions which have been assigned to this division.
  2. This function also requires close coordination with other areas within the SSM Integrated System such as the Clinical Integration Organization (CIO), and population health management efforts, in addition to operational and strategic coordination with SSM Finance and Hospital/Physician Organization leadership at both the system and regional levels.
  3. Serves as the System's chief contracting officer and lead negotiator with external payors (e.g,. national/regional insurance carriers). Contributes to strategy development and negotiations with self-funded employer groups in support of the System's direct-to-employer relationship-development function.
  4. Staff and operating budget management responsibility for all functional departments: SSM Managed Care Contracting.
  5. Serves on or leads various committees to assist in strategic and operational goals of SSM, which include (but is not limited to):
    1. SSM Leadership Council
    2. SSM Regional Managed Care Contracting Committees (standing member or chair of Oklahoma, St. Louis, and Wisconsin regions)
    3. Other Integrated System committees as assigned
  6. Submits to the Senior Vice President & CFO on the goals and projected budget for the SSM Managed Care Contracting department.
  7. Develops and maintaining a good working relationships with leadership across the Integrated System and outside the organization (e.g., SSM payor relationships, other industry leaders, etc.).
  8. Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations as appropriate.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the SSM President of Healthcare Delivery, Finance, and Integration.

Qualifications

  1. Understanding the Mission and Values of SSM Health Care and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
  2. Ability and desire to integrate CQI principles and tools into work processes.
  1. Hands-on leader who offers a solid track record of excellent performance.
  2. Proven ability to think conceptually and be able to develop and implement strategic organizational goals, working with leaders within and outside of the health system.
  3. Very detail-oriented and analytical with excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  4. A demonstrated track record in negotiation of payor or provider contracts, have outstanding people relations skills, and yet results-focused. Must have high intelligence, integrity and common sense.
  5. Demonstrated ability to think strategically coupled with detail orientation.
  6. Strong communication and presentation skills, coupled with the ability to work with leaders across the System.
  7. Strong influencing skills to manage team members and physicians group.
  8. Strong ability to manage, change and improve organizational effectiveness.
