JOB TITLE: Medical Director for Informatics Quality and Process Improvement
General Summary: The Medical Director for Informatics, Quality and Process Improvement will provide clinical leadership to the SSM Health St. Louis (STL) Medical Group for the implementation, maintenance and enhancements of the electronic medical record and other technology initiatives. This position will work collaboratively with fellow physicians to improve office efficiencies, optimizing physician and patient contact. The Medical Director will collaborate with various partners as a physician champion in the planning and implementation of Medical Group initiatives. Drives other key projects and initiatives important to the collective Medical Group outcomes.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide Clinical leadership to the SSM STL Medical Group for the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the electronic medical record and other technologic initiatives.
  • Clinical leadership of EMR implementation, maintenance and optimization in a timely manner which promotes provider productivity, enhances patient safety, uses personnel and fiscal resources prudently, and positions the SSM STL medical group to be a market leader in patient medical record access and clinical decision support capability.
  • Collaborate with the SSM STL Medical Group Department of Quality, Process Improvement and Value-Based Care Delivery in the planning and implementation of Medical Group initiatives
  • Partner with Medical Group physicians to implement evidence-based medical management protocols.
  • Represent the STL medical group on the SSM Network and Regional EHR committees. Such committees may include: MIC (Medical Informatics Committee), Ambulatory Governance Committee, MyChart Steering Committee, Epic Health Maintenance Committee, Enter/Edit results committee, and others that may arise on either a regular or ad-hoc basis.
  • Work with SSM IT to help develop and promote the use of information technology in the clinical setting to improve clinical quality, safety, patient and family satisfaction, and the overall efficiency in the delivery of healthcare.
  • Clinical leadership in initiatives integral to achieving patient care that is value-based, patient-centered, efficient, timely, equitable and safe.
  • Leadership to improve Medical Group performance on Medical Group Quality, Patient Experience and Safety metrics.
  • Partner, as necessary, with hospital leadership.
  • Present as necessary at Medical Group Departmental and Administrative Meetings.
  • Complete a monthly time sheet for activity, hours, and mileage.
  • Serve as the physician leader and Champion for Medical Group initiatives. Specific responsibilities will be assigned to each individual Medical Director to assure there is no duplication of effort. Examples (not all-inclusive) of initiatives would include projects such as: (See attached)
  • Serves as a practicing physician, in good standing with the SSM Health Medical Group (approximately 50% of a fulltime role).
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to: Vice President of Medical Practice
Interrelationships: Collaborate with the Medical Group's Department of Quality, Process Improvement and Value-Based Care Delivery as a Physician Champion in the planning and implementation of Medical Group initiatives.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:
  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) and a current license to practice medicine in the States of Missouri.
  • Board eligible or certified in an ABMS or AOBMS recognized medical specialty.
  • Currently practicing as a clinician in one of our Medical Group environments.
  • Commitment to the SSM mission and culture.
  • Perform effectively in a complex and changing environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Strong communication skills. This includes excellent verbal, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to educate and mentor.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflow in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Team player who can partner effectively with physicians and non-physician staff.
  • Familiarity with Epic Ambulatory module.
    Preferred:
  • Previous experience as a physician leader.
  • Process improvement, quality improvement, and management skills.
  • Knowledge of ambulatory related quality metrics, such as HEDIS measures and Meaningful Use measures.
  • Two or more years' experience as a practicing clinician.
  • Proficiency in use of EpicCare Ambulatory and Epic Inpatient
  • Experience in clinical systems and process re-design.
  • Familiarity with the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Medical Informatics training and experience.
