The Opportunity

SSM Health Dean Medical Group, a 500+ physician multi-specialty group, is actively recruiting for a full-time (1.0FTE) Neurology Advanced Practitioner. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest or prior experience in neurology and be comfortable working independently. The new AP will see patients primarily in the outpatient setting and occasionally in the inpatient setting conducting consultations with the patients and their families. There will be some travel involved when the candidate sees patients in an outreach clinic located in Stoughton, WI.

The Hospital

The new medical campus in Janesville (www.stmarysjanesville.com) opened on January 9, 2012. It includes the 50-bed St. Mary's Janesville Hospital and the adjacent Dean Clinic office complex. The hospital provides seamless health care services from Urgent Care to ICU. If a patient requires tertiary care, a transfer to St. Mary's Hospital in Madison is easily accessible. Madison is 35 miles north of Janesville. Electronic medical records are connected throughout the hospital, clinic, and the entire Dean system through Epic.

The Community

Janesville is located 40 minutes south of Madison and 90 minutes from Chicago.

Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practices collaboratively with physician colleagues and other healthcare providers to provide high quality healthcare to children. Address and respond to patient and staff requests for information in a timely manner, prioritizing patient requests and urgent needs.
  • Assess patient of any age presenting for health care and obtains a personal medical history, appropriate physical examination and recording the resulting information. Performs routine therapeutic procedures. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic agents. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. The provider must demonstrate knowledge of the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Plans for patient care by making comprehensive clinical decisions based on advanced diagnostic skills and professional judgment, reviewing results of diagnostic tests and procedures, developing and implementing a treatment plan for the patient and/or family, and providing a wide range of interventions required to effect change.
  • Problem solving skills demonstrated by making competent advanced clinical decisions, utilizing appropriate resources, consulting with physician, and involving management where necessary.
  • Maintains effective methods of formal and informal communication with staff so that dissemination of information/administrative decisions are conveyed in a positive and supportive manner; motivates and supports staff to achieve department/contractual goals and operational benchmarks.
  • Contributes to the satisfaction of the medical staff by collaborating with physicians to deliver best care.
  • Recognizes and utilizes opportunities to act as a change agent by introducing nursing practice innovations.
  • Evaluates nursing practices associated with specialty area, defines needs/problems with patient care and makes constructive suggestions that creates a positive patient outcome.
  • Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and/or counseling.
  • Facilitates referral of patients to other appropriate community healthcare facilities, agencies and resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

  • Master's degree from nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner program


EXPERIENCE

  • One year nursing experience
